    Hi Ramsey,

over at win-raid canonkong has made a modified AMD USB 3 driver to be generic, and supposedly works for intel systems?

If you have an intel system to test with, do you mind testing this generic USB 3 driver?

Ramsey would you add an extra Media Player choice to the 690mb next release like the old Media Player Classic or suchlike which is still great for DVD playback etc. Only tiny files which will add only a few mb and keep the iso size to still 700mb or less. Users could still use the Potplayer if required. Thanks.

      Ramsey · 4 years ago
@Pensioner PotPlayer is also based on MPC. And the official MPC-HC has ended the support for Windows XP for over a year now. And PotPlayer is also better in every aspect.

    Dear Ramsey,

As you are very busy I don't want to take up too much of your time, but with the understanding that the XP Integral (formerly Black) Edition has officially reached the end of major support (not including minor releases to update 3rd-party tools) I just wanted to take some time to write a message for you. They usually tend to turn into books, so I'll try not to let this one get too out of hand. No guarantees!

Being born in '92 I got to grow up with Microsoft and Windows during what was arguably the halcyon era for both. With each release Windows seemed to get a little bit better; even the widely panned ME was still very good when you turned off System Restore. By the time 2001 came around and XP was released, it seemed Microsoft had finally cracked the code on what it takes to make a truly solid OS. It struck a perfect balance between stability & compatibility with a kernel that made it possible to near-seamlessly run older programs in tandem with the latest software while being almost impervious to crashes (especially by the time SP2 came around; by then Microsoft had gotten their acts together and fixed virtually all major bugs).

XP holds a great deal of nostalgia for me, as I've been using it almost as long as I have been alive. I was an early adopter, as was the rest of my family. It seemed to be a big gamble in the beginning, because we were not sure how far/long MS was going to run with it, but as the years went on and MS kept improving it we knew we had made a good choice. It speaks volumes to how advanced for its time it was that it is still so capable today of meeting nearly all the needs one could possibly have as far as getting things done on a day-to-day basis. One by one, as its predecessors were sent to the digital graveyard and newer versions with more bells/whistles were released, the old soldier XP continued to march on bravely. Its march continues to this day, though its support is now much more limited than in years past. Everything about it has just always felt right, and as long as possible I'd like to keep using it, though I realize that there will come a time where I cannot any longer. Until that day comes, I'll continue to happily appreciate the old champ.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you very much for blessing folks worldwide with the ultimate version of perhaps the greatest OS ever made. Your hard work by no means is unappreciated, and I am grateful that despite the negativity you've had to face from some folks you selflessly kept this project running as long as you did. It feels like the end of an era. If it is, it damn sure ended on a high note, friend. God bless you & your family. When it's time to switch to something newer, I know who/where to turn to!

    Always grateful,

    Cameron M.

    Hi Ramsey
In your opinion how safe is XP now, after MS has now finished its security updates or patches? I read that most hacker attacks were mostly IE exploits in any given Microsoft system over the years. So going off that as long as an updated browser(other than IE!) or a good anti virus is onboard plus the commonsense of the user e.g avoiding dodgy sites, then most XP users should be safe on the Net. Would you agree?

      Ramsey · 4 years ago
@Pensioner If you running Windows XP in a Virtual Machine to play old games or use old programs then it's okay. But to use it those days as you main Operating System connected to the internet is not a good idea anymore. It's now time to move to Pop!_OS (Linux) ore Windows 10.

      Darek · 4 years ago
@Pensioner I use Windows XP with an internet connection. It's actually quite safe, If you don't download from unofficial sources or "accidentally" download some random malware. I've been using Windows XP Black Edition ever since I found out about it at the beginning of 2019, when I was looking for a compiled update pack for Windows XP.

Windows XP still has support from Microsoft mainly because Windows 10 is shit and the mere fact that even to this day, many hospitals, ATMs, schools and businesses still use windows XP.

Btw thanks for the amazing work you've done, Ramsey. You've breathed life into my old computer!

@Darek Thanks to both Ramsey and Darak for sound advice. I moved to XP after using the excellent Media Center system which by way I still have on an old in use laptop. XP is still a delightful system to use unlike that bloody awful Win10 which Microsoft gave away for free at the start and wants to continuously load up junk and spy on the user. Win7 is a nice system too, but XP meets all my needs well!

Hi Ramsey what are the pros of using Basilisk? I am using your Windows XP at moment and seeing which browser is the best.
    • This commment is unpublished.
      Crouch · 4 years ago
@Neal Cullum It looks like Basilisk runs something close to Firefox 52 ESR on XP with more uptodate patches. That's probably going to be the newest browser on XP that's still (somewhat?) maintained. So if anyone knows of something better or an alternative, I'd like to hear about it too.

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a laptop with 2 hard drives installed. One has Windows XP and the other has Batocera. How do i create configuration so it gives me a choice when booting to decide which hard drive (OS) to boot into? I tried to use EasyBCD but won't work on Windows XP. Thanks.
    • This commment is unpublished.
      Ramsey · 4 years ago
@Neal Cullum With Linux you normally install Windows XP first and then Windows XP. if you want dual boot.
One simple way that works always is to create 2 Primary Partitions and set the one you want to boot into as Active Partition in Linux or Windows.

    hi ramsey,

i found a work around for storport not copying

    in txtsetup.sif

    [files.acpi]
    acpi.sys,4
    acpiec.sys,4
    oprghdlr.sys,4
    storport.sys,4

    now it copies across

probably not the best solution, but it works

did you want to test my ISO on some newer XP incompatible hardware?

@infuscomus Yes i can try it out on an Intel Chip but i don't have any AMD Chip to try it out. :(
But if people don't run into any problems with it then i can easy integrate it Into WinXP-IE. ;)

    Ramsey,

would you be willing to test a couple of new drivers for the next release?

It's an ACPI 2.0 driver and a generic AHCI driver. Testing done by me and dietmar over at Win-RAID forums shows it works for AMD Ryzen.

@infuscomus I cannot test it myself because i don't have any AMD CPU. But i can include almost everything if it doesn't cause any side effect.

@Ramsey here they are - hope you can test

theres an issue where storport.sys wont copy itself across after first reboot - it works fine after you manually copy it
If you can figure out why it wont copy across we'd appreciate it

@infuscomus Did you try to put also the other 2 files into the "CopyFiles" INF section?

@Ramsey this error is at first reboot after txtmode setup before any inf drivers are installed

we can integrate with nlite and storahci will load in txtmode setup - on reboot only storahci.sys is copied to c:\windows\system32\drivers

storport.sys does not get copied - thus 7B BSOD - and we're not sure how to tell setup that it needs to copy storport.sys across

      @infuscomus Did you try this:
      [storahci_CopyFiles]
      storahci.sys,,,1
      storport.sys,,,1

Check also if the file "acpi.sys" has being overwritten.

      @Ramsey OK,

Does it matter where i put this in txtsetup.sif?

acpi.sys override can be avoided by replacing the copy in driver.cab
