    Just finished installing on a spare desktop. SWEET!

    Anyway, my other XP is setup for offline only, and I run Linux for connecting to the web, so I just need some feedback from other people here about which antivirus software to use. In other words, what are you using?

      @TheRedZone I used AVG Free Antivirus 2016 v16 installed from the offline installer which is the last version without ZEN which totally ruined later versions. It's available on the net but you have to install Private Firewall first and block avgui.exe or it will nag you to death.

      So far so good.

      @TheRedZone AVG and Panda are the only big Antivirus company that still support Windows XP.
      I choose Panda Dome (WinXP-IE Screenshoot) because it has the same detection rate as AVG but it uses less computer recourses.

      @Ramsey Avast now own AVG after buying their company. Avast also annoys you with adverts. Also in the free version the licence is reduced from 1 year to 60 or 90 days depending which offline installer version you use and after that time, it nags you buy it or purchase other addons You can't even upgrade to the latest free version. Only solution is to uninstall and download newnew or latest offline installer again.

      @TheRedZone Avast also when it scans an installer or new file, quarantines it even if harmless or just plain crashes XP!

    @Feathers, yes interesting that some of the drivers are 32 bit backward compatible and you sometimes get away with it as in sound drivers, but others may cause blue screen of death. Luckily I've a good selection of xp drivers, but Win10 hardware base platform/bios is a different kettle of fish and will prove a challenge for sure to get xp onboard smoothly. :)

      @datauser I agree - I would never try this on a UEFI bios although I have installed Win 7 on them with a special installation which involves a Win 7 installation iso using the Win 10 wim files for friends who can't stand Win 10.

      The Toshiba A500 was an experiment to see if it could be done with XPIE. My only bluescreen was with the infrared drivers and a review of the .inf file showed that it was trying to install to the Media Center parts of the OS. The only program that would not install was my Kindle for PC. So now I have a computer that will run XP 7 8.1 and 10.

      @Feathers XP IS NOT DEPENDENT ON UEFI OR BIOS .
      If Acpi work it will work more stable than any newer crap windows like 10

      @DMS No it is not dependent however if you have a computer with UEFI it is more likely to have driver problems because it is more likely to support hardware which is incompatible with XP.

      If I had such a bios I may be tempted to try it :D

      @Feathers Yes, it is the hardware which is the deciding factor and whatever CPU Intel etc software instructions you need to install unique to that system.

      @DMS Not strictly the case as the bios is very important in whether a system is rejected or accepted! The system ergo is dependent on bios settings and if not suitable will crash it or give blue screen of death every boot time. I work with computers.

      @Dave Again this is true however the point here is that the more modern the bios the more likely it is that the hardware it supports will be difficult to find drivers that work in XP. This is because the hardware may have been developed long after XP was discontinued.

    @feathers, how did you ever get Vista drivers to work in XP they are incompatible as any drivers for a different system would be as far as I know! Out of curiosity I tried in my Toshiba laptop some Vista drivers and they were rejected.


    @MrRockchip, running XP in a virtual environment in Linux is a good future option.

      @datauser Toshiba drivers can be a pain as they come in self extracting wrappers - I use Winzip to extract them and then run them from there. As the A500 is nearly 10 years old now I've found that the drivers are mostly compatible as long as they are 32 bit and not 64. I've used win 7 drivers in XP, Vista drivers in 7 and 7 drivers in Win 10. I all else fails install a 32 bit version of Vista on your laptop - use Double Driver Backup to extract the drivers - burn them to a CD or DVD and use control panel system on XP to search the CD for the drivers.

    I just tried it on a Toshiba A500 I5 laptop and found it works fine with about 95% of all the programs - I used drivers from Vista 32 bit and every one worked except the IR driver which seems to require Media Center to work. It is faster than Windows 7 or 10 and networks easily.

    I'm going to miss it when I go back to something more modern.

    I had a feeling that would be the case and you've just confirmed it. It will be a nightmare to get xp drivers for any modern hardware 2018 as they probably would not exist! Running xp as a virtual platform might be a better idea for a new pc. I'm glad my old Win 7 laptopsToshiba & Acer) can run xp as both their bios are compatible with it and I backup have drivers from Acer and Toshiba stored on a hard drive.?

    If I get a new laptop I will probably replace the operating system with a stripped down spyware free lite Win10 assuming any are out there?

    Cheers mate. Only problem for me is can I actually find my old avatar pic on my old laptop? Time for a new one perhaps?

    While I'm here a question for your expertise. As most newer PC's laptops run 64 bit Win10 now will the modern 2018 bios/hardware still accommodate XP?

    I have two older laptops which ran 64 bit Win7, but I had no problem deleting its partition and installing 32bit XP on. I was thinking of buying a new laptop and worry that the latest hardware/BIOSes no longer accept 32bit systems like XP. What do you advise? Thanks.

    I think the main problem would be getting xp drivers for a newer tablet/PC hardware as manufacturers don't support it anymore! Usually on my old Toshiba satellite after installing XP Black the only drivers I needed to install were 'display', 'card reader', 'Internet lan' and 'sound.'

    Will thethe XP Integral install on a newer computer still be missing a few drivers I surmise? Tracking them down will be difficult if OEM does not support XP? I think I should get a newer Toshiba Satellite as maybe I could use the older XP drivers from 2010 version Pro version I had bought? I won't chance Acer or Hewlett Packard!

      @datauser To find Windows XP drivers for the new Hardware will be a big problem.
      In the next days i will upload an original Windows 10 64-biit .iso file from Microsoft where all the updates are already included by Microsoft itself.

      @datauser Just install Linux and run Win XP on top of it inside a Virtual Machine. Performance difference will be about 1-2% CPU compared to the host; slightly worse for the GPU though... Only problem is, although you could always attach a USB device to your Virtual Machine, tasks like upgrading a firmware of your USB card reader would not be a good idea :P

      @lolo Yes and No it depends on your Computer. If you have an old computer with less then 3GB of RAM and a IDE Controller then it should work. But if you have a computer with over 3GB of RAM and a SATA Controller then you should definitely better use Windows 10 64-bit.
      But you can also use a Virtual Machine like VirtualBox then you can run Windows XP inside of your installed Windows 7/8.1/10.

      @TheRedZone You can run XP on SATA you just need the drivers. Problem was you would need them either baked into the OEM folder of the install or you would need them loaded onto a floppy. I had an old MSI K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum board and it has SATA ports, which I used. I also needed to supply the drivers for the SATA controller with a floppy at boot time, or customize the Windows install image to include them. You'd think they would have allowed it to be supplied from a USB or swapping the CD for a few seconds but no, "everyone has a floppy drive lul" typical MS. Anyways.

      @datauser The option for editing its own posts for a period of time is on the to do list. But what do you mean with "web picture characters"? I did now also added the module "Monthly Top 5 Posters". ;)
