Ramsey thank you for giving our old pcs a new breath. I have installed the OS with no fuss. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday. Task manager was greyed out of the blue at the task bar and ctrl/alt/delete is not working. I managed to bring task manager back with a cmd command but disappears after a few seconds. gpedit.msc command and regedit commands work only for the first time I use them but both windows disappear after 30 seconds. Has my system been hacked? Any suggestions?

So I read that minimum system requirements include a "350|1200 MegaHertz x86 Processor with SSE2", but if I use the Patch Integrator tool to remove all the SP3 SSE2 Updates and create a custom iso will it install on a system with a Processor without SSE2?
    • This commment is unpublished.
      Ramsey · 2 years ago
@RetroWindows That's correct. But keep in mind that some 3-party programs will also have problems if you don't have SSE2. For example you will need to switch from the 360EE browser to the New Moon 27 browser.

    Hi Ramsey,
I try to install your nice XP on a
Biostar z690a valkyrie board with 12900k cpu.
Noone of all the AHCI drivers is recogniced for XP on this board.
I make a try with installing direct to USB.
This works, but not with Firadisk. I succeed to boot full XP SP3 to desktop on this board.
Problem in direct USB install is, that the path seems always to be G:\ for XP windows
and C:\ for the USB install medium.
Also I tried install via XP CD, different AHCI driver, different USB.
All give Bsod 0x7B. So, this board has a big problem with XP Ahci drivers for an unknown reason, also for the CD Rom drive.
Tomorrow I make try direct install to nvme device.
This problem is not acpi related, just to all the SATA ports on this board

If you use nLite to include the drivers, then you can run into problems when the USB Toolchanges the default Windows XP driver letter. nLite is using a custom directory for it's driver and adds a fixed "C:\path" Value into the "DevicePath" registry entry.

DriverPacks BASE is doing the same. But in WinXP-IE a work around was added to fixed that problem and the driver letter will be automaticity set by the modified DriverPacks BASE "presetup.cmd" file after the Bule screen installation stage.

The "Optional Patch Integrator" is using the default driver directory so no extra "DevicePath" registry entry is needed.

      @Ramsey Hi Ramsey,
for the Biostar z690A you can use for half of the Sata ports the Fernando 1006 driver. For this you have to add by hand Ven_8086&DEV_7AE2 in its *.inf.
The Asmedia driver is Ven_1b21&Dev_1064. Even there is an Asmedia driver vers. 3.3, which should work for Win Server 2003, for me it crashes always.
For this, only the Kai Sata driver works after(!) complete install of XP

does the backported windows 8.0 storahci driver not work for this hardware?

do you see the same behaviour booting onto windows 8.0 itself?

Good to know. I now added the 7AE2 device entry into the Fernando 1006 driver for the next WinXP-IE release.

@infuscomus With the backported win8 storahci driver I get the "not equal" message at once before TXT Mode happens for XP. I think, that for some strange reasons the path to the boot device Sata is not found, even the Sata HD is shown in Bios.
Win 8 I have not tried but will do just now

Hi just installed this and everything feels great. However Windows doesn't detect my headphones (it just says no audio devices) and for my dual monitor setup it outputs to the second monitor but in the display settings it only shows up as 1 monitor, can't edit the other. Any help is appreciated!

@infuscomus I managed to get sound working from a tenforums article, which is what I originally wanted. I don't think I can get a graphics driver working (i have an amd RX580) on the operating system so thanks for now, unless someone has a solution for that as well.

i can't get this or the 2021.12.19 version to install. I can get through initial setup but as soon as file copying is over i keep getting this message
"Cant locate EULA file press F3 to exit.
The last version I had working was the 2015 version which install just fine with no issues.

Maybe I'm not doing something right on these newer versions. I know the file is in the image because i checked by doing a search. Can anybody please help me resolve this?

    Thanks

What is the reason for this resource abuse script at wxpiero.cmd:
ECHO Searching for the file "%FileName%" in all drives. This may take
ECHO a while, depending on the amount of files on your computer. Please wait . . .
    • This commment is unpublished.
      Ramsey · 2 years ago
@kakalos Like the script says, it searches for the file "WinXPPx86IE - Setup.cmd" after the Windows XP installation. Because the directory of this file can change when installing Windows XP with an USB Flash drive.
    • This commment is unpublished.
      kakalos · 2 years ago
@Ramsey Then at least you have to ask the user for that path before the script scan through thousand directories.
Is there a way to disable WinRM and powershell etc. installation inside the iso so that at the installation stage won't be installed?
    • This commment is unpublished.
      Ramsey · 2 years ago
@kakalos Even a user will not know what the USB tool will do with the OEM folder. I had a lot of user complains a long time ago that the Options Selector menu was not showing up even in some Virtual Machines.

And PowerShell is not included in WinXP-IE and WinRM can be uninstalled in WinXP-IE at the Windows Components Wizard.
