    Hey Ramsey, love your work. I built this screen dimmer app to add an overlay to adjust the brightness of the screen on Windows XP. I built it to targeted .NET 4.0., so it should be compatible with all versions of Windows from XP-11. If you think this is something that would be nice to include in future releases let me know. https://archive.org/details/screen-dimmer

      @gul khan I prefer the old UI, although not great, it has zero shit that drives me mad.
      Also possible to secure which you can't do with a modern Windows OS. (And yes, BSD-unix would be your choice if security was really important, or some B1-rated OS if it was extremely important.)

    I'm having a problem. I can't install the Integral version because it always crashes or simply stops at "Performing Final Tasks" -> "Register Components." I've already tried older versions of Integral, unfortunately with the same result. I've also tried removing everything except the graphics card and CD-ROM and then installing it. No luck.

    Just a heads-up:
    Patch Integrator from the latest May build abruptly fails and silently exits just when it tries to populate the XPIE.cat catalogue with the filename and path references via for loop (line 2497). Same thing happens with the one included in the November build last year.
    I dunno whether it's a working dir path issue or something. Used these options shown in pic attached.

      Ramsey · 9 days ago
      @MorningGlory I could not reproduce this problem on WinXP and Win11. You must be doing something special to trigger this problem.
    • This commment is unpublished.
      MorningGlory · 9 days ago
      @Ramsey Nothing special I am doing. Ran the script with and without elevating from context menu.
      What came to my mind is that there might be a problem with parsing the parentheses in a parent folder containing the unextracted folder from the archive, say: "C:\ISOs (System)\Windows XP Professional SP3 x86 - Integral Edition 2025.5.5".
      Moved the folder to a parent path with no parentheses nor spaces. Gonna see whether the problem still exhibits.

      EDIT:
      Seems that my conclusion is right. Using a short parent folder path with no parentheses (and spaces for good measure) didn't cause the script to fail. Pretty sure spaces don't matter as I bet it would've constantly fuck up due to the unextracted folder naming having spaces, so i think parentheses might come in factor.

      @MorningGlory
      Try to replace this line:
      For /f "tokens=*" %%a in ('Dir /b /a:-d-h-s "%TempDir%\*"') do (>>"%TempDir%\catalog\%CatalogFileName%.cdf" ECHO ^<hash^>%%a=%TempDir%\%%a)
      With this line:
      For /f "tokens=*" %%a in ('Dir /b /a:-d-h-s "%TempDir%\*"') do >>"%TempDir%\catalog\%CatalogFileName%.cdf" ECHO ^<hash^>%%a=%TempDir%\%%a

    Hello, I installed a clean installation of XP IE 5.5.2025. Immediately after installation I installed the "SP4" update package called "WindowsXP-USP4-v3.1b-x86-ENU.exe". Everything runs smoothly and the computer does not reboot itself. After a manual reboot via the start item, the system does not get through the boot menu with a message when I try to log in: "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80070002." Unable to proceed to the system. The previous XP 32bit version of IE was fine, although after the final "Post-SP4" update there was a skin destroying after a reboot.

      @Jackob You should not install SP4 on top of WinXP-IE, it will overwrite all the patched files. And you error is because the "winlogon.exe" was overwritten which disables the licensing check and the ability to remove the useless licensing files. And everything that's in SP4 is also in WinXP-IE.

      @Ramsey Yes, you're right. I didn't notice your original comment in the ReadMe: "Includes ALL the latest Windows XP and POSReady 2009 Updates/Hotfixes until 22.5(May).2019". So do I understand correctly that all files from this package are integrated (https://archive.org/details/xp-unofficial-sp4-jan2022_20220113), including "Post-SP4"? If so, you should edit the description of the MUI package where you state that it is advisable to download the unofficial SP4. Thank you for your work.

      @Jackob
      The ReadMe file says that WinXP-IE has already all the latest updates included. The SP4 is if you don't run WinXP-IE.

      @Ramsey You are right. This is not exactly how I understood it from the text. My mistake. There was a question about a 2.2TB+ HDD. You list this topic correctly (https://msfn.org/board/topic/181911-read-gpt-hard-disk-on-windows-xp-solved). I tested for quite a long time my mechanical 4TB TOSHIBA HDD using the program mentioned in the topic. There was no BSOD during the reboot, although the whole disk was written (full).

      The problems (BSOD) occurred if:
      1. PAEs (severe problems with unreadable data) were applied.
      2. A modified driver v8.0.1.2 was applied.
      3. The XP-IE installation was on a "stone age" computer (FAT32). Even the GPT on FAT32 patch did not help.

      The XP-IE installation was located on an NTFS file system without PAE, then everything works fine with a 4TB TOSHIBA HDD.

      Here is a link to the software you can try (in the next version to integrate):

      @Saugjunkie Please repeat step by step what you do and write it down for us to see, so we can eliminate any errors or if there is a buggy line etc?

      @Saugjunkie Ignore this error, it's only to disbale the SFC which is been disabled anyway when selecting the Preconfigured Windows Settings.
