Hi Ramsey, How do I know which version of Vanilla has been installed on a PC? Is there any specific parameter I can check? I need to figure out if the failure of Sandboxie v5.40 to work with the latest versions of WinXP-IE is due to an update or a driver.

You can compare the change log. 😏
I added this to the RunOnce "WinXPPx86IE - Setup.cmd" file to fix the Sandboxie error.

If I want to update the browser, downloading latest 32-bit version of Basilisk from author's website: http://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/
and pasting it to Program Files' Basilisk folder is enough?

I installed this to an EEEPC 901  that I upgraded to a 32 gig ssd. Everything worked great except audio which did not work at all.  It uses Realtek audio and I have the all drivers originally provided for the EEEPC. After reading this forum I found suggestions made to another user that was having problems with no audio on a Realtek souncard. I followed those instructions but still have no audio. Removing usb host controller and usb root hub did not work. I downloaded the driver application and it was not able to find a driver.

I did find an older copy of winxp integrated service pack 3 dated 1-11-19 so I tried that. I installed drivers as before and I have audio.

I am not sure why it all works on the earlier version and not on this version. I did notice that while the device manager displayed all the audio codecs that were installed it did not show an audio device at all in the current version. However that device is present and shown to be installed in the older version that I am now using. I am quite happy with the older version but I am curious as to why the current version is not able to recognize the presence of the audio device.

can you show what driver .sys file your audio controller is using? I think it might have accidentally been left out of the more recent version.

In device manager select your audio controller, under the driver tab select driver details and show us all the files listed.

also, please share your hardware IDs too, under the details tab select Hardware IDs from the list and show us what is listed.

@infuscomus Hi infuscomus, Thank you for responding. The driver file details section has a number of files listed. The file that specifically identifies the audio card is RtkHDAud.sys.  The driver files details tab of the device manager shows the following files:

      \Windows\ALCMTR.EXE
      \Windows\ALCWZRD.EXE
      \Windows\MicCal.exe
      \Windows\RTHDCPL.EXE
      \Windows\RTLCPL.EXE
      \Windows\RtlUpd.exe
      \Windows\SkyTel.exe
      \Windows\SOUNDMAN.EXE
      \system32\ALSNDMGR.CPL
      \system32\drivers\dmk.sys
      \system32\drivers\ks.sys
      \system32\drivers\portcls.sys
      \system32\drivers\RtkHDAud.sys
      \system32\drivers\stream.sys
      \system32\ksproxy.as
      \system32\ksuser.dll
      \system32\RTCOM\RTCOMDLL.dll
      \system32\RTCOM\RTLCPAPI.dll
      \system32\RTSndMgr.CPL
      \system32\wdmaud.drv

These are all found in the 1-11-2019 edition of the OS. As I mentioned previously the hardware device itself is missing from the device manager in the 5-15-2021 version although the audio codecs are all present. I hope that I have not given you to much information.

@happy2bhere are you able to install the driver manually on the 5-15-2021 version?
    • This commment is unpublished.
      happy2bhere · 3 years ago
@infuscomus I tried to that with no success. I noted that a number of the files that were present in the 01-12-2019 version were missing from the 05-15-21 version so I copied those over manually thinking that it would do the trick. It made no difference. Since the Realtek audio device was missing from the device manager I tried to find a way to make it show up. I accomplished this by installing a *.inf file from the right click context menu. The device did show up with a big yellow icon over it. The sound manger in the control panel is still greyed out and shows no audio device present.

However, on an unsuccessfull redo of the driver installs I noticed a pci device listed under the system category in the device manager that was disabled. I used the right click context menu and selected "update driver". I browsed to the wdm subfolder inside the audio folder on the support disk and there it was. The pci device enabled and renamed itself as Realtek Audio HD.

      Now I have sound.

      Thank you for your help.

@happy2bhere If you could post the last working version then i could compare them. Other ways it's a guess work because i don't see any changes that could cause this problem.

      @happy2bhere
I too am interested in figuring out why this is happening and what changed between the old and new versions.

Regarding that "PCI Device" that was disabled can you post its Hardware ID? I'd like to find out exactly what it is.

@babybearjs If you lost Administrator privileges over a folder or a file then this tool can give it back.

I cannot get sound on my Acer machine after installing XP. Downloading the compatible drivers (Realtek high-definition) gets a code 10 error cannot start. I have tried all known possible solutions (restarting, updating, uninstall and install). Don't know if it is the other programs that came with XP ( audio codec, media controller, etc) that could be clashing with it.

@Hannah if you have any free pci-e slots you can get an audigy RX - I know from my own experience that it works.

@Hannah You can also try DriverPack and see if it finds a Windows XP driver for your computer.

@Hannah I too have problems with sound. I followed Mr Ramsey's previous advice of going to Device Manager and uninstalling USB root hubs and controllers. Following a restart they reinstall/realign over a few minutes and it works for me.

Somehow I can't access the "Repair" option on the Partition list page, did I something wrong or should I modify something?

      Ramsey · 3 years ago
@Pocok By default the "Repair" option is accessible. Looks like a tool you used messed this up.

@Ramsey I used a brand new 4GB pendrive with WinSetupFromUSB (NTFS formatting), not sure where I messed it up.  I even did a /chkdsk /R on the hdd to prevent any error before trying to actual repair it.

@Pocok Most USB Flash installation tools will disable this option. Use a Disc if you want to keep this option.

Are the minimum/recommended hardware recommendations increased by any means or if an old PC can run SP3 easily, it can run this version too?

@Pocok Also I see a lot of extra folders/files besides the ISO (I thought everything is integrated into the ISO), which ones should I pay attention to? There are quite a few things I'M not familiar with in the "Integrator Files" folder.

@Pocok The optional patch integrator is for installing XP on PCs newer than 2014.

@Grissa check in task manager if there is anything running that is using up your RAM or CPU.
